Does the file leave my device?

No. The browser decodes and re-encodes the image locally.

Can compression change image quality?

PNG resizing and optional color simplification can change pixels; with no color simplification, the decoded colors are preserved before browser PNG re-encoding.

Can the output be larger?

Yes. Re-encoding does not guarantee a smaller file for every source. The result card shows the exact before-and-after sizes.
